MMA at the BUC!

Sitting through four despicable quarters of Hurricane defeat is bound to leave you feeling pretty angry. So angry maybe that if given the opportunity, you might just act on your underlying urge to sock a VT fan right in his stupid Hokie face. Unfortunately for me, the VT faithful are rare in south Florida. Fortunately however, I had purchased a ticket for Saturday night to Bad Blood II: Battle of the Americas - an MMA event held right on campus in the Bank United Center. What better way to vent a day’s football frustrations than by watching a bunch of insanely fierce grown men beat the living piss out of one another for money?!

To say the very least, it was $%&#IN’ AWESOME! I had never seen a live fight before and this was definately better than I had expected. We managed to score great seats, but regardless the atmosphere was intense. You can feel the tension rising until the first strike. The sound of knuckles hitting flesh sounds like nothing you’ve ever hear on tv - wet and flabby. Dudes get knocked out cold and lay motionless for minutes while the victors celebrate. Incredibly hot women dance around half naked between rounds. It’s absolute brutality, and absolutely awesome!

Okay, so maybe most of the people in attendance did suffer from huge testonerone imbalances. And yeah, maybe it does promote raw violence. Maybe women are degraded. Maybe lives are ruined. Some would say it’s wrong on every level. But there is some distant, deeply rooted notion existing in direct protest to all these arguments telling me there’s nothing wrong. Maybe I’ve bought American too long or maybe I just watch too much Spike TV, but I’m gonna agree with that little voice.

Thanks for bringing the fight to UM!
