Support the team this Saturday at 7:30pm @ the BUC.
While you were stuffing your faces with breasts and thighs this break, UM athletics continued to DO WORK in a big way.
For starters, the football team closed out it’s “storied” season (for lack of better a euphemism), beating intrastate rival USF by three touchdowns. Perhaps inspired by their debut Nike wardrobe, the Hurricanes defense and offense seemed to click wonderfully. Harris tallied two scores by air and James rumbled across the goal line for two TDs of his own. In a lot of ways, the game gave Miami the opportunity to go away making a statement. The win should also situate the team for favorable bowl placement in the post-season.
On the hardwood, Miami’s ballers threw down with style against USC Upstate. Despite USC’s height advantage in the form of 7’ 3” gargantuan center Nick Schneiders, UM still rained in the baskets. Collins scored 13 points and Johnson had 11. Defensively, the ‘Canes held the opposition to measly 41. The victory marks the seventh straight since Miami’s opening game, a streak which should bolster the confidence of a rebuilding team. Though we have yet to play anyone with a really big reputation, Miami is about to start facing some real talent. Let’s hope they can keep the momentum going!
All in all, a good weekend for the big two!
Miami took on Nova Southeastern last night at the BUC. Scoring over 100 points, the Canes destroyed the outmatched team. Still, it was a game worth watching. This was the first I’d seen all year and it was interesting to note how differently the team operates (without McClinton of course). The cool things is though that there appears to be much more of a team dynamic this year. Real ball movement and multiple shooters capable of getting hot outside the arch. It’s gonna be fun watching the team grow and hopefully throw down this season.
