Maybe the Homecoming football game just isn’t your thing. What to do on Saturday night then? Why not check out SLEEPLESS NIGHT?

From 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2009, until 7:00 a.m. the next morning, Miami Beach will stay up all night with more than 150 free arts and entertainment events presented at 80 different locations throughout the city. Over 100,000 people of all ages will enjoy free museum admissions, indoor and outdoor art installations and performances, architectural tours, dance (and dancing,) theater, music, slam poetry, film, video, fashion, acrobatics, comedy and more, including several unique collaborations and South Florida and world premieres. The City of Miami Beach collaborates with every cultural institution in the city, and with numerous other organizations, businesses and individuals to ensure that Audi Sleepless Night includes all aspects and points of view of what we collectively call “the arts.” Free shuttle buses with onboard arts programming connect the four zones of activity and remote parking for the full 13-hour night.

This is an endemic Miami event certainly worth checking out. Besides the obvious incentive that everything is FREE, it’s also a great way to see what Miami can offer in terms of the arts. At worst, you’ll come away with a new appreciation for all the wonderfully weird stuff that makes the 305 truly unique.

Funkshion / Fashion Week Miami Beach

Consider yourself something of a sartorialist?

Then you should consider hoofing it to the Design District next week. Funkshion / Fashion Week Miami Beach will be going down from Tuesday til Sunday showcasing a variety of fashions, styles, cosmetics, runway shows, and other stuff a la mod. Most of the events start in the evening with new ones taking place about every hour. The best part is that most of the events are free with no need to register, so you can just roll by and drop in. Also, if you happen to be of age, a few of the events offer complimentary cocktails and refreshments. If I can recall properly, the Bass Museum of Art is pretty fly and hosts a number of these events. I’d recommend checking out something scheduled to happen there if you’re having trouble figuring out what would be cool.
